About MTT

We are Metals Technology Testing, MTT, established in 1983 in Sheffield, UK.

What is the precise composition of your product or material?

Are there any hidden defects which could affect the performance of your material in your proposed application?

What are the mechanical properties of your material under adverse conditions such as temperature, compression or impact?

We can answer all these questions, and many more. Our job is to provide answers and assurances, with supporting data and analysis, to companies like yours.

We specialise in metal testing services including metallographic testing, mechanical testing, elemental analysis, wet chemical analysis, and failure investigations.

We record all results and supporting data in one easy-to-read test certificate, so you can determine the integrity, safety and reliability of your material - just what you need to be confident in the quality of your products and keep your business running smoothly.

If your metal products fail to perform as expected, we can investigate the cause and record all contributory factors in a comprehensive failure investigation report with colour photomicrographs, so you will know what to do next.
We give you valuable quantitative data, with qualitative analysis, so you can act quickly, and avoid costly delays.

We collect, prepare, test, analyse, report and return or dispose of your sample material for a hassle-free testing experience and a simple end-to-end service.

Local collections are available by our own truck driver. We can arrange UK collections on your behalf via our preferred courier, if required. Prices for international collections vary by courier and we can advise you on your choice of courier to ensure the best rates and tracking options.

Sample preparation processes are also a fully inclusive part of the service.

We offer expedited services if you need the answers fast.

Our experienced metallurgists and technicians analyse your material in accordance with your required specification and proposed application.

We offer free and impartial advice to our customers. A formal consultation is available on request.

We are accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to ISO/IEC 17025 with a comprehensive quality management system subject to regular internal audit and annual external audit.
